John 15:16 – ” You did not choose me, but I chose you”
God chose You.
“and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
God wants to give us jobs. He wants to give us responsibilities. He chose us for a purpose.
—————
We didn’t choose this church. We didn’t choose God. He chose us. We played a part in coming to this church but ultimately God chose us to be a part of this fellowship.
1. As Christians we are “Chosen” – There is a reason we are chosen.
There are many things in life that we strive after. Sometimes those things are a barrier to what God wants to do in our lives.
God hasn’t just chosen us but He has chosen us for a purpose.
2. Reason for being chosen: “To go” and “bear Fruit.”
What does it mean to “GO”? It means that God doesn’t want us to stay in one place.
Sometimes we don’t want to move because we are comfortable and happy.
God is calling us to a life of “going”.
Where do we go?
We see Christ’s command to “Go” once again.
Matthew 28:19-20 – ” Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
This is representative of the church. We are not to go out and start ministries on our own but in the context of the church.
Baptism is an example of that. Baptism is done in the context of the church.
3. The Great Commission + The Great Commandment = The Church.
Church is not about the building but about The Great Commission and the Great Commandment.
Often we get the order wrong.
First is coming together as believers and as a team to fulfill God’s plan.
The thing that we really want others to know about us is whether we are faithful to God’s plan or not.
