The message was delivered by Pastor John Stone of Willowbrook Baptist Church from Exodus 3:1-4 titled “How to Experience God” and find out what God wants us to do.
Do we love people because they come to church or do we bring people to Jesus because we love?
Moses was enjoying his comfortable life at Pharoah’s palace but had to flee from Egypt and leading a humble life of tending sheep. When we are told to do God’s work somewhere, the comfort we are in may stop us. And Moses was comfortable because he was in the presence of God despite the struggles and environment.
The best place to be with God is to be with people of God where the words of God are taught. To be in the presence of God is like turning on the light in darkness because His light shines in.
To experience God:
1. Exodus 3:4 – When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the brush, “Moses, Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” Turn your head to God – spend time with God every morning, take time to read the Bible and pray. There may be a struggle under the blanket whether to go back to sleep or look to him. Life is a fight, and if we don’t win, we let the devil win.
2. Exodus 3:5 – “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Mt. Horeb – desert with rocks – was holy because God was there. Church is a sanctuary, not because of the building but because God is there. As Christians, when we go home, God is there with us, and when we are on a crowded train God is there as we pray for people around us. Experiencing God could be in the park, downtown or anywhere because Jesus lives in us.
3. To really experience God, Moses had to have restoration. In the bush, he came before God, forgiven and restored to God. He realized God’s plan for him from his birth. We are all given a purpose, but first we must have our sins forgiven. Our purpose is not just to know God but to experience God, to have fellowship in relationship with God. He promised to be with us even at times of trouble, show us the way and walk with us.
He opens the door for us to walk through to help people, to free them from bondage of this world, from hopelessness , false religion and enter true life. It is for us to take a chance to walk through the open door.
