2015.10.11 Matthew 28:16-20 – “Realizing the mission”

This week’s message, the Great Commandment” can be paraphrased as “make disciples of all the nations”. The actions needed are (1) go, (2) baptize and involve in fellowship, and (3) teach them to observe all things taught by Jesus.

From the Bible, we learn that the disciples actually practiced the teachings in their daily life. We must carefully observe how to realize each of the teachings at church, home, school and work.

① Go (spread the good news）
Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, ・・・

Acts 1:8　But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

・No need to go out far since family and friends are also places where you have been sent for mission. The ripple will eventually grow wide.

② Invite those who have been saved into fellowship
Matthew 28:19 ・・・baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:41 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

・Is Life Church / Life Group “closed” or “open?”
・Is Jesus’ disciple “a customer” or “a servant”; “a person who cares” or “a person who needs to be cared?”

③ Teach them to follow the teachings of Jesus
Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; ・・・.

Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

・Are you “the one who teaches” or “the one who listens?”
・What is needed to changed a person from “the one who wants to be taught” to “the one who teaches?”
