2015.10.4 Matthew 28:18-20「Understand the assigned mission」

18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

We are taught that it is important to have a “target (dream)” in our life. However, the disciples led a blessed life of carrying out the mission assigned by Jesus instead of pursuing their own target/dream.

There is nothing wrong in having a target or dream in life, but as Christians, we have be called for a mission to fulfill God’s plan and dream that far surpasses an individual’s dream. Today, we will check the meaning and blessing of the mission and go into the details next week.

1. Understand the difference between a goal and a mission
・mission ―― gives reason of your existence
・target ―― gives reason of your action

・mission ―― will not change forever
・target ―― bound to change anytime

・mission ―― shows the direction ―― unrelated to success or failure
・target ―― always connected to success or failure

2. Find the right “mission”
・serving/work for the ”Sovereign”/“King”/“Emperor”/“country”/“company”/“customer”?
・is “the mission” really worthy of sparing your life for?
・isn’t “the mission” based on the sacrifice of another person?
・is the one who assigns “the mission” truthfully right?

3. Live in “the mission” of Christ
・you can find the meaning and purpose of life
・you can find the reason of your existence
・you can be liberated from this world’s idea of “success”
・you can be liberated from the mythology of “realizing a dream”
・you can be liberated from the worry of failures and setbacks
・you can end your life in peace and with a sense of fulfillment
