2015.11.6 – 1 John 5:1-3「Putting Your Love of God into Practice」

Do you fully accept God’s love clearly demonstrated by the cross of Jesus Christ? Do you live a life filled with security in the arms of God and joy of being forgiven 100% and accepted 100% by God?

Not only does God’s love bring us peace and happiness, it makes us love God. When we love God, we would be moved to obey God’s commands.

Today’s Word and message will provide a chance to look back on ourselves to check whether we are leading a life motivated by God’s love.

1. Understand what it is to live life motivated by God’s love
1 John 5:1-2 – 1 Everyone who believes Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.
If our life is moved by God’s love→ we receive and are filled with God’s love→ we are moved to love God→ concrete action: love one another

2. Put God’s love into practice
1 John 5:3 – In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.
John 12:3 – Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feed with her hair.

And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
The action does not come from obligation nor expecting anything in return but through love for God.

3. Look back whether our action reflects our love for God
1 John 5: 3 – as in point 2
1 John 2:3-5 – 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, lover for God is truly made complete in them.

This is how we know we are in him.
・Do we keep his commands?
・Do we feel any burden on account of our faith?

After the service, Life Group fellowships were held to talk about practicing the Word of God based on following:

1. Have you been able to understand what it is to be moved by God’s love?

2. Let’s check whether you are motivated by God’s love.
・Worship – including Sunday worship, Life Group and tithe
・Fellowship – sharing honestly and openly
・Discipleship – studying the Bible and practicing
・Serving – time to serve God
・Mission – introduce Jesus Christ to family and friend.
