177th Life Church Service Message from Matthew 6:5-15, “Lord’s Prayer” Part 2 It is said that in many religions, a person would be rewarded by just saying a prayer. The same could occur at a church; however, a prayer has meanings. Review from last week – (Part 1): 1. Don’t be like the hypocrites and gentiles. The hypocrites act out to be heard and noticed while gentiles just mumble and repeat meaningless words. 2. Be in privacy and talk to God. A place to pray without being disturbed.) 3. Praise God the Father. 4. Make God famous; well-known so that His name will be honored. 5. God is the Father at home with us. Matthew 6:9 - “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10.Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. The first part of “Lord’s Prayer” is focused on God and the second part about us. 1) 11. Give us this day our daily bread. The food we need each to survive and not for the whole week. If you think too much about the future, you may forget to focus on today. 2) 12.And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. There’s a slight different between “sin” and “debt”. “Sin” has a Greek translation meaning an arrow missing the target. Whereas “debt” is something we owe someone and need to be repaid. 3) 14.For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15.But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. If you are forgiven, you should forgive others. Even if you are a member or a church and attend church every Sunday but do not forgive others, then there is no salvation. 4) 13.And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. (For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen”) On this earth, there seems to be no peace but troubles and struggles and temptations; therefore, it is right to ask God for help. Jesus also prayed similarly. Matthew 26:39 – He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but You will.” There may be people who you cannot forgive. Pray to God honestly and eventually forgive. 1 John 5:18 – We know that whoever is born of God does not sin, but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. No one is perfect and bound to sin. However, should not continue to sin.
