2016.5.29 – 1 John 4:6 “Knowing and Seeking the Fruit of the Spirit”
Main passage of the month: 1 Corinthians 14:12
Even so you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church you seek to excel.

➀ Understand the importance of discerning spirits.
1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Philippians 1:10 “so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ”

1 Corinthians 12:10 “to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.”

Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil”

➁ Learn how to discern spirits.
1 John 4:2 “This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,”

1 John 4:3 “but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.”

What does “acknowledge Jesus” mean? It means to acknowledge Jesus is Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Because the Holy Spirit never contradicts the Father and the Son.
John 16:15 “All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.”

➂ Learn how to walk by the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:16 “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”

Living by the Spirit means — Living with the Father and the Son

Which describes the way you communicate with the Holy Spirit?
1. Lord, what do you wish me to do? When? How? Where? With whom? What would be the outcome?
2. Lord, let me know what needs to be done daily and I will do accordingly.
It seems quite natural for us to ask for specific guidance as in 1.

Jesus says, “I am the way.”
Jesus doesn’t say; ・I will show you the way.
・I will give you a road map.
・I will be your navigator.

If Jesus is the way, all we need to do is stay on the way. There is no need of any detailed questions but believe in Jesus.
