246th Life Church Service 2016.6.19 John 6:26-34 “Knowing and Responding to God’s Call – 3”
We are all called by God to take part in His Work.
【Question】 Why are you looking for Jesus?
John 6:26 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.”
Are you looking for Jesus to fill your stomach or to have eternal life and not because you believe in His call?
【Answer】 Because Jesus called me.
John 6:27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.
Revelation 3:20 “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
Jesus is always there calling us and we answer to His call when we open the door and let Him be the master at the dining table.
➀ Get rid of the idea that we should believe Jesus Christ to get something. (John 6:27)
【Review】 Understand the nature of Jesus’ calling. (Matthew 11:28-30) “Take My yoke”
(Matthew 4:19) “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
Jesus is inviting us to be a part of His Work. We should know that His call and our response would be to take part in His Work. When we respond to His call and love, we find joy in taking part in His work.
Matthew 13:22 “The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it making it unfruitful.”
➁ Know what the eternal life really is.
John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
We are called to use the gift given to each of us and work for “food that endures eternal life” which is Jesus Christ – church. Therefore, we serve God to build the church, the body of Christ.
Work for food should be a joy instead of a burden.
Philippians 3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
