2017.10.22 John 21:15-17 “Acquiring the Right Leadership”
Matthew 5:13 “salt of the earth” / Matthew 5:14-16 “light of the world”
Jesus chose us to share good influence and has given us the gift to share good influence – love.

➀ Being aware of the bad effect of “compartmentalization” from the western world.
John 21:15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” “Feed my lambs.”
Ephesians 4:11-12 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.
We are responsible to feed the sheep of Jesus. Each of us is gifted differently, however, division of responsibility is to build up the body of Christ and not to work separately. A position of leadership does not come first but it comes later as the responsibility requires.

➁ Responsibility to tend the sheep of Jesus (build up the body of Christ)
John 21:15
[Wrong idea about conditions of a leader] Having: a long membership / a thorough knowledge of the Bible / a special gift / a desire to be in the top position / a recommendation from others
[Wrong ideas a leader may have] Being a leader of music / missionary / small group leader / an accountant / Sunday school teacher, I have no pastoral responsibility.
Ephesians 4:11-12
What Jesus seeks in a leader is not a specialist, but one who holds responsibility in caring for the sheep; responsibility to build up the body of Christ.

➂ Enjoying the mutual pastoring in the church
John 21:16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me>” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
Matthew 20:26-27 26 “It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be you slave;
1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Not only one person but each member has the responsibility to use one’s gift and serve one another to build up the body of Christ.
