2017.12.10 John 1:6-13 [Rediscovering the Joy of Faith]

Feel the joy of knowing Jesus.

➀ Rejoice being children of God

John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

Romans 8:14-15 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Galatians 3:26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:7-8 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. 8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.

Galatians 4:9 But now that you know God — or rather are known by God — how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

To be children of God is

・to be freed from being a slave of sin.

・to understand that God will not remove the right to be children of God (Luke 15 – The Prodigal Son).

・be able to call God: “Abba, Father.”

・to feel the intimate relationship of Father and son.

Satan will tempt to separate son from the Father reminding us of our sins and failures to discredit us as children of God. However, once accepted as children of God, we are forever children of God since God does not give up on us.

➁ Rejoice being an heir of kingdom of God

John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

Romans 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

1 Peter 1:4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you,

Galatians 3:29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

“Children of God” is not just being residents in heaven but to inherit what God has promised.
