2017.12.3 Galatians 3:1-14 [Rediscovering the Joy of Worship]
We are saved because of our faith.
Romans 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
➀ The enemy of faithful life is to “forget”
Galatians 3:1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.
We are usually happy when we receive presents, however, as time goes by, we humans tend to forget the happiness. Understanding the gospel and believing the promise of God helps us to control our straying minds.
◆We were bound for ruin.
Ephesians 2:3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.
We are self-centered by nature and tend to forget that God is at the center of where we are and “miss the target.” We should not forget our sins and that our sins have been forgiven through Jesus Christ by the love of God.
Ephesians2:4-6
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.
God knows our sinfulness and weaknesses but has forgiven and accepted us as we are because of his love.
◆We were the enemies of God.
Colossians 1:21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.
Colossians 1:22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—
◆We were sinners.
Titus 3:3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
◆We have been loved and saved while we were sinners.
Titus 3:4-5 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
➁ The enemy of faithful life is to rely on “deeds”
Galatians 3:11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”
Galatians 2:16 Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
God does not decide whether to forgive or not depending on our deeds as we have been forgiven through Jesus Christ and our faith.
➂ The enemy of faithful life is to detach yourselves from the love of Christ.
Galatians 3:14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
God’s love never changes. Abraham was blessed not because of his deeds, which included failures, but because of his faith.
