2017.3.12 John 17:1-5 ”Believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God”

John 17 is a prayer of Jesus:

1. John 17:1-5 – prayer for Jesus Christ, the Son of God

2. John 17:6-19 – prayer for his disciples

3. John 17:20-23a- prayer for the future disciples

4. John 17:23b-26 – prayer for those in the world who do not believe.

How would you feel if you were nominated for a worldly renowned award? How about when you received that award? You may be surprised with unbelief and jump with joy for receiving the award.

How would you feel if your favorite entertainer was nominated for such an award or received the award? Wouldn’t you be as happy as if it were your own?

How much interest do you have in Jesus being glorified? How much joy do you have that Jesus is glorified?

John 17:1 & 5 – Prayer for Jesus, the Son of God – to be glorified (on the cross).

➀ Make the glory of the Lord your own happiness.

John 17:1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.

John 17:5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Psalms 57:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

If you love Jesus more than your favorite actor/actress, singer, musician, athlete or anyone and find joy when that person wins an award, how much more joy will you find that Jesus is glorified.

And when you have this happiness, the next step would be to share this happiness with others.
