2018.09.23 John 13:1-17 “In order to strive for love of God.”

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the price of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

August 26th: Experiencing God in loving each other.

1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

September 9th: Not escaping from what you are unwilling to try.

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

September 16th: Acquiring a mature attitude (way of thinking).

Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you;

➀ Following Jesus’ examples

John 13:15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

Jesus’ examples are:

A) Love

John 13:1 It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

Jesus has shown his love for us in many ways. By accepting his death on the cross, Jesus showed his ultimate love, however, at this point the best way to demonstrate his love was by washing the disciples’ feet.

B) Wash one another’s feet

John 13:14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

☞ Have deep relationship with one another

John 13:8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you no part with me.”

☞ Touch the most shameful part of another.

☞ Let the touch your most shameful part.

John 13:5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

John 13:14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

Jesus has touched our feet (sins) and gave himself to wash our sins for no other reason but love. He taught us how to love one another – to have respect on others.
