2018.01.21 Philippians 4:2-9 “Obtaining proactive walk in Christ.”
・We can only be passive towards God’s works of “salvation,” “atonement of sin,” and “eternal life.”
・On the other hand, it becomes a work together with God (Spirit) after our resolution of faith, and we are expected to take an active step forward.
➀ Being proactive in choosing a life with joy in Christ
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again; Rejoice!
・The command to “rejoice” means the conditions have been laid for us to be proactive.
・Whether we rejoice or bemoan is up to us to decide rather than anyone else.
・Have we decided to be happy with the life given by God? Do we hold a clear intention?
・Or are we always looking for excuses and complaints for not being able to rejoice and leading a life of worries?
Why not when we have received the love of God.
➁ Being proactive in choosing not to get anxious about anything.
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
・The command “do not be anxious” means we are affirmed that we can be proactive in choosing not to be anxious.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Question: How could this be?
Answer: Some people might read just part of the verse and understand partially:
Philippians 4:6・・・but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
However, it is important to read the Bible clearly verse-by-verse:
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
➂ Being proactive in choosing good things and put them into practice.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
Philippians 4:9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
