2018.05.27 Corinthians 8:1-3 Let us put the Biblical teaching into practice together
Many people today think happiness is to have children being educated. Education would help secure good jobs which in return could bring high income. People think money would make their life easier. Furthermore, having a fortune would allow them to have a happy life in their old age.
Also, many people today believe happiness is a result of marriage and having children.
However, the Bible says:
Deuteronomy 6:3-5 3. Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you. 4. Hear, O Israel; The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Everyone wants to be happy, but you need to know that if you should a mistake on how you go about seeking this happiness, no matter how much you try, the real happiness you are hoping for, may be more distanced.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
What does it mean by “his kingdom and his righteousness?”
Matthew 22:35-40 35. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36. “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37. Jesus replies: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38. This is the first and greatest commandment. 39. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
➀ Learning & implementing the word of God = learning & implementing the love of God.
1 Corinthians 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
1Corinthians 13:1-3 1.If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2.If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3.And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
➁ There is no ending in learning & implementing the love of God.
1 Corinthians 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
1 Corinthians 8:2 The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.
1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
