2018.07.08 Colossians 3:12-14 「Loving Yourself in Tasting the Love of God.
Mark 12:31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is o commandment greater than these.”
It has been said, “Loving your Children” is the same as “Spoiling your Children.” However, loving your children is not necessarily the same as spoiling your children.
A quick review of the last week’s sermon
➀ Building an intimate relationship with yourself.
Psalms 103:1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Psalms 42:5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
Things we know from these passages.
1 You can see yourself as one other person and have a relationship with him/her.
2 Yourself could be your closest neighbor and an object of your love in Christ.
➁ Talking and listening to yourself carefully.
Psalms 42:5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and
➂ Leading to what God wants you to do.
Psalms 103:2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
Psalms 103:3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
Psalms 103:5 Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
➀ Applying the teachings about loving your neighbor for loving yourself.
Colossians 3:14 And over all these virtues put o love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
➁ Loving yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
➂ Bearing with yourself and forgiving yourself.
Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Three steps to forgive yourself.
1 Accept the fact that you are weak and sinful.
2 Don’t judge your weakness and sinfulness.
3 Have patience and observe your growth (Colossians 3:13), Let the Word of God encourage you and lead you.(Psalms 103)
The basis for these three points is the fact that God loves and forgives you.
Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
