2018.09.16 Philippians 3:12-16 “In order to strive for love of God.”

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the price of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

August 26th: Experiencing God in loving each other.

1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Faith should not be self-centered. God loves us and wants us to love God and one another. When we love God and love one another, this shows we love God.

September 9th: Not escaping from what you are unwilling to try.

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

➀ Acquiring a mature attitude (way of thinking).

Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you;

A) Do away with a perfectionist attitude.

Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.

☞ A man’s ego (pride) is the cause of perfectionism.

☞ being strictly lawful is the cause of perfectionism.

☞ Perfectionism generates judgment on brothers and sisters.

☞ Perfectionism provokes self-judgment.

☞ Perfectionism is the antithesis of “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12).

☞ Perfectionism disrupts church fellowship and makes the church unhealthy.

☞ Enthusiastic, serious and ambitious person tends to become a perfectionist.

☞ Then what should such a person do?

B) Seek perfection while admitting your imperfection.

Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.

☞ When you practice loving God and your neighbors, you can realize your own imperfection.

☞ As you are practice love, you might start worrying about others’ imperfections in love.

☞ However, take care not to stumble.

☞ It is important to pursue the practice to love God.

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead.
