2017.10.01 Matthew 20:20-27 “Acquiring the Right Leadership.”
Matthew 20:26-27 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave –
Leadership is “influencing and developing a group of people in order to accomplish a purpose.”
“Influencing and developing a group of people.”
Salt of Earth = Influence
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Light of the world = Influence
Matthew 5:14-16 14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
We Christians are called to influence people in the world so that they will praise God.

Jesus wants all Christians to display “leadership (influence).”
⇩
Jesus will surely realize the Lord’s will!
・Leadership is not just for the leaders.
・But if you are called to be a leader, it will be even more crucial to learn about leadership God is asking for.

➀ Knowing that every one of us has a sinful nature wanting to be greater than others.
Matthew 20:21 “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
Matthew 20:25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
Matthew 20:24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.

Because they also wanted to be greater than other disciples.
Without knowing everyone has a sinful nature of “wanting to be greater than others,” there could be a possibility to display wrong leadership – being authoritarian/predominant (control with power/strength).
Or a possibility of a leader who wish to satisfy own desire of “wanting to be greater than others.”

➁ Knowing that everyone will face opportunities to exercise leadership.
・between husband and wife
・between parents and children
・among siblings
・within small groups
・at workplace / school

Between husband and wife Ephesians 5: 22, 25
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Between parents and children Colossians 3:20-21
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
What happens when good leadership is exercised in your family?
Matthew 5:14-16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
