2017.11.19 John 4:21-24 “Creating good service that pleases God”

➀ Deepen the relationship of love with [Father in Heaven].
John 4:21 Jesus declared, “Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
Worship is not just visiting or going to a place of worship but to worship God. As much as God loved the Son, Jesus loved the “Father in Heaven.” God is pleased with our love of the Father.

➁ Understand the love of [Father in Heaven].
John 4:22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know, we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Worship is to express praises and thanks to God.
・In general, people in Japan do not find it strange to worship god they do not know.
・The reason is they are more concerned about the benefits they can receive rather than about god.
・They believe [god of gain] = [good god]”

John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
・We cannot see nor touch God, but is always with us.
・God is not pleased with “material offerings” but finds pleasure in our love, thanks, devotion, and repentance that cannot be seen.

1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
・God = Spirit (John4:24) ・God = Love (1 John 4:8)
In these verses, the words “Spirit” and “Love” could be interchanged.

Then what is [truth]?
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.
John 14:9 Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.
Jesus was sent to us to show the likeness and the radiance of the Father so that through him we can know God.

➂ Responding to the[Father in Heaven (Spirit)] and [Son (Truth)] John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

1 John 4:12-13 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
