2017.2.19 Psalms 96:1-13 Tasting the Joy of Giving to the Lord

Review of first and second weeks:

1st – Psalms 100:3 “David rejoiced knowing who God is.”

2nd –Psalms 103:2 “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessing, see what God has done!…”

➀ “Praise the Lord” = “Sharing the good news”

Psalms 96:3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Glorifying God and talking about the “marvelous deeds” in public enables people, who do not know God, to come to know God. This mission is a will of God to let people of all nations know him. And this has already been written in the Old Testament because God wants all people to be saved.

Psalms 96:7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Psalms 96:10 Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

These words are clearly aimed at people throughout the world rather than to the Jews.

1. God wishes that people of all nations will get to know him and worship him.

Psalms 96:1…“All the earth.”

Psalms 96:3, 5, 7 , 10 …“nations”

Psalms 96:3, 5, 10, 13 …“peoples (of all nations)”

Psalms 96:10 …“the world”

2. God wants people of all nations to be saved.

Psalms 96;2”proclaim his salvation day after day.”

Psalms 9613”Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.”

3. God wants us to know his greatness and to speak of him accurately.

Psalms 96:4-6 4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
