2017.2.12 Psalms 103:1-5 “Tasting the joy of Giving to the Lord”

Theme verse of February: Psalms 100:1-2

Review: David rejoiced knowing who God is. (Psalms 100:3)

God is present at every church around the world and knows each one and its worship, the attitude of which is up to each individual church.

➀ Praise the Lord with all your heart.

Psalms 103:1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

David was reminding himself to praise the Lord.

Ask yourself:

“How seriously do I worship?”

“Do I share the same feeling as David that no gratitude is enough to express thanksgiving?”

David’s love of God is fathomless.

➁ Count God’s blessings.

“Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done!…”

Psalms 103:2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits –

Not being satisfied with what we have is in a way a driving force to seek improvements and progress. On the other hand, we also tend to forget being thankful once our goal or wish is fulfilled. The exodus of Jews from Egypt is a good example. Once they were liberalized from slavery, they started complaining about the hardships they were going through in their journey and the kind of food they had to eat.

However, we must remember the blessings we have from God.

・The Lord forgives all your sins

・Heals all your diseases

・Redeems your life from the pit

・Crowns you with love and compassion (v.4)

・Satisfies your desires with good things

・Your youth is renewed like the eagle’s (v.5)

To remember how much we can be thankful, we may start by making list of blessings not only of happy times but even of our hard times.
