2017.4.16 John 20:19-31 Believing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God

Q: How can you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God?　　Is it because:

・His character is outstanding,

・His teaching is marvelous,

・He has done various miracles,

・He died for us?

All above are true, however, we may not have to believe just for above reasons. If Jesus had not risen from the dead as he had preached, then he would have been just any other normal person. However, because of his resurrection, it proves that he is the Son of God.

A: [Because Jesus rose from the dead] — Resurrection of Jesus proves that he is the Son of God.

Romans 1:4　and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

A: [Because Jesus rose from the dead] — There is no other than Jesus who can win over death.

Romans 6:9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

【Understanding the meaning of resurrection】

➀ Resurrection proves that Jesus is the Son of God

John 20:9　 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)

John 20:28　Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

The following reasons alone cannot be our objectives of faith – that Jesus :

・ Had an outstanding character.

・ Teachings were marvelous.

・ Has done various miracles.

・ Died for our sins.

➁　Resurrection proves that the words of Jesus are true

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

John 2:22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

1 Corinthians 15:17　And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in you sins.

➂ Resurrection is a message to us

Acts26:23　that the Christ would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would proclaim light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”

John 20:29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

1 Corinthians 15::14　And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

Therefore, we can believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.

John 20:31　But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
