2017.8.27 1 Peter 2:1-3 “Getting Together in the Name of the Lord”

We gather because we have been called by Jesus to gather.

Practice “Getting together in the name of the Lord.”

➀ Getting together asking for the Word.

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

Gather together and seek the word of God as babies long for milk.

When can we seek the Word? … As you get together in Christ’s name after having rid of all malice.

1Peter 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

➁ Getting together for the spiritual growth.

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

When people get together, there could be various problems, like misunderstandings, different opinions and crashes, but God does not desire any of them.

What a baby needs for growth: What a Christian needs for growth:

1．Milk 1．The Word

2．Caretakers 2．Pastor / Teacher

3．Family (Love) 3．Church family (Love)

A baby cannot live by milk alone, but needs someone to look after with love, which would be a family. As such, a Christian needs the word of God and people like a pastor, a teacher or a leader to help feed the word and make it understandable. On top of that, a Church family of love is needed to help growth in spirit.

Those who cannot grow are:

・The ones who come to church but won’t study the Bible.

・The ones who study the Bible, but won’t be a part of the church family.

If a person does not take part in the church family, this person is unable to “Love one another” as commanded by Jesus.

We grow when we get together in Jesus’ name, craving the word of God, putting the word into practice in the fellowship with the brothers and sisters in Christ.

➂ Tasting the grace of the Lord in the fellowship.

1 Peter 2::3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

1 Peter 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, lover one another deeply, from the heart.

We want to be like Jesus, i.e. to love as Jesus did – with forgiveness and acceptance.
