2018.10.07 Romans 12:1-2 “Seeking worship that please the Lord.”

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

The most important commandments for Christians

Matthew 22:37-40 37.Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38.This is the first and greatest commandment. 39.And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40.All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

➀ The essence of worship is giving yourself.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

John 12:3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

What can you give in worship?

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.

Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

That is our worship should be to give ourselves (to attend church service) and serve the Lord.

Breaking away from the wrong sense of worship as follows:
・ to receive blessing
・ get refreshed from worship
・ listen to instructive words
・ have the feeling of being with God
・ to enjoy good music

・What have I given today?
・What have I served God with?
