2018.4.29 1 Corinthians 14:1-17 Let’s study the Bible together.
➀ Studying the Bible to deify the church
1 Corinthians 14:1 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.
1 Corinthians 14:12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.
What is the purpose of church service, education, fellowship?
□ To edify yourself.
□ To edify the church.
What does it mean “to edify the church?” (edify = build up)
⇒ Love Christ the head of church (Ephesians 1:22)
⇒ Love the members who are parts of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:25)
Matthew 22:34-40 34.Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees go together.
35.One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question;
36.”Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37.Jesus replied; “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38.This is the first and greatest commandment.
39.And the second is like it; ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40.All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
➁ Checking if “it” is edifying the church or yourself.
1 Corinthians 14:4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.
1 Corinthians 14:17 For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified.
Romans 15: 1-6. 1.We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
2.Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
3.For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”
4.For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
5.May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus,
6.so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
