2018.05.13 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 ”Let’s put the Biblical teaching into practice together.”

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Bible study is not just to get loads of Biblical knowledge and not for personal growth but to know the love of God. When your get to know and understand the love of Christ, you realize the significance to love others. To live for Christ and to love Christ is to love the church and love the members (brothers and sisters) of the church.

➀ Practicing what you have learned from the bible means practicing the love of Christ.

1Corinthians 13:1-3 1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

➁ Seeking how you can express your love.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,

Application – specific application of love: Patient, kind, not jealous, not arrogant.

Just learning and understanding the application would be useless unless they are put into practice. However, not everything can be easily accomplished. You should also be patient to yourself for what you have been unable to practice. God is patient with you, so why can’t you be patient with yourself. The point is not to cover up your shortcomings.

Other specific applications pointed out by Paul include:

patient, kind, not jealous, not arrogant, not rude, not seek its own benefits, not provoked, forgiving, not delight in injustice, rejoice with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things

➂ Working through something that would ever fail.

1 Corinthians 1:8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.

Not making “religion” a tool to escape from your reality to face.

Our citizenship is in heaven and our life here on earth in temporary. The value of this world is not the same as the value in the kingdom of heaven, however, the application of love is also be applicable in heaven.

Romans 15: 1-6 1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
