2018.5.20 Psalms 51:10-19 ”Let’s put the Biblical teaching into practice together!”
Study of the Bible is studying to love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind.
➀ Being made humble by studying the bible in a right way.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Psalms 51:16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
To the Jews, study of Bible was
・Study of Bible (= Law)
・Practicing what is written in the Bible (=Law)
Matthew 19:16
16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” the man inquired Jesus replied, “’Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,
19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said, “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
What was the problem with the young man?
・Unable to give up all his fortune to the poor?
・Believed his knowledge and his action of the law was perfect?
➁ Be aware of the trap when studying the Bible earnestly, such as
・ Becoming critical of pastors’ or leaders’ Bible comprehension.
・ Secretly judging brothers and sisters at church.
・ Expecting recognition from others for practicing the word of God.
➂ Acknowledge and accept your own imperfection, receive God’s forgiveness and forgive yourself.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Romans 7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
How do you mature as you deepen to practice the word of God.
1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance; Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
