2018.09.09 Colossians 3:12-17 “In order to strive for love of God.”
Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the price of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
August 26th message: Experiencing God in loving each other.
1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
➀ Not escaping from those you are not willing to try
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
☞ Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience cannot be gained naturally.
☞ “To clothe yourselves” suggest the need of intentional effort.
☞ Therefore, work you may feel “undesirable” could be included in the practice of love.
Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
☞ Salvation, forgiveness of sin and atonement for sin are the grace of God and not by your efforts.
☞ Likewise, it is by grace that you have been given spiritual gifts.
☞ However, God raises and trains us and enables us to work on what we do not desire.
➁ Seeing God as you do what you don’t want to try
Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
☞ The nature of our sins is to reject what our “body” feels undesirable.
☞ The nature of our sis is to be satisfied by just listening and understanding the word of God.
☞ The nature of our sins is to look for excuses to reject patience, forgiving, accepting and loving our neighbors.
➂ Having fellowship with the Lord and brothers and sisters in Christ as you do what you don’t want to try.
Colossians 3:14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule I your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
