2017.8.6 Matthew 18:19-20 “Getting together in the name of the Lord”

The word used to mean “Church” in Hebrew and Greek originally meant “getting together.”
Why do we consider “Getting together” very important at Life Church?
That’s because Jesus tells us to get together in His name.
Matthew 18:20 For where two or three come together in my name there am I with them.”
Because we are a family of God.

Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household,
We do not ask, “Why does a family stay together?”

That is because “staying together” itself is the main purpose of a family.
Therefore, it is irrelevant to ask such questions as, “Why do we get together at church?” or “Why do we hold small groups?”
One of the purposes of “worship” and “small group” is “getting together in the name of the Lord.”

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three come together in my name there am I with them.”

➁ Know that Satan dislikes us “getting together in the name of the Lord.”
Hebrews 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Acts 5:36-37 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing.
37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered.

➂ Be united in the purpose of “getting together in the name of the Lord” and share the joy.
Matthew 18:19 “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.
・We do not get together to “satisfy our own needs” but to “do the will of the Lord.”
・Be happy that we are able to get together by adjusting our schedules.
・Be aware that Jesus is in the center of the gathering.
・Believe and rejoice that Jesus has warmly received us.
